Ohio Valley Filk Fest 22

Programming

A line drawing of a pegasus in flight

Every year at OVFF, we offer a schedule of programming that is intended to entertain, educate, and engage those attending the convention.

This programming includes concerts by our guests of honor and others, workshops, panels, songwriting competitions, one-shots, and open-filking (both themed and otherwise). Other activities, such as the Interfilk auction, help round out the schedule.

Still Too Early to Say

We're still in the early planning stages for programming for OVFF 22. Come back often to see what we've come up with.

What We Did Last Year at OVFF 21

Lots of things happen every year at OVFF! Here's what happened in 2005:

Concerts

We had a fabulous lineup of concerts this year. Besides our Guest of Honor Frank Hayes and our Toastmistress Seanan McGuire, our concerts featured the rich and sultry singing of Marty Fabish and the blister beat of Wild Mercy.

Pegasus Nominees Concert

On Friday night we hosted the Pegasus Nominees concert at which all of the songs nominated for the Pegasus Awards were performed, giving everyone one last chance to hear them before voting.

Workshops

Laat year, Seanan entertained us all by teaching the art of stand-up comedy on Friday night. Eric talked about Filk, Media, and Technology. Bary and Sally Childs-Helton taught the basic techniques of jamming. Rand Bellavia used his experience in teaching poetry classes to present a workshop on lyric writing.

Once again we presented yoga workshops - not just one morning, but two, given by our yoga instructors, the lovely (and professionally certified) Mary Crowell and Teresa Powell. On Sunday, Sally Childs-Helton lead a drumming workshop.

Children's Programming

A number of activities were scheduled for younger children at last year's OVFF.

Songwriting Competitions

There were two of them last year. The themes were "Shipwrecked" and "Three Hour Tour". See the Contest Winners page for details of who won.

One-Shots/Twofers

Because of the limited number of slots and the number of people who want to have one of them, the slots were allocated by drawing names of those who sign up on the list at the registration desk.

Open Filking

Open filking was rampant, as usual, througout the con. Some was scheduled, some was ad-hoc, some was themed, some was pure chaos, and all was enjoyable.

Interfilk Auction

The ever-popular Interfilk Auction returned on Saturday night with the (now traditional) professional auctioneer. All proceeds went to Interfilk.

Early Bird Filk

A number of con members always arrive at the hotel on Thursday night. We arranged with the hotel to have an open filk room if those people wish to gather for a filk circle.

Theme Filks

Last year, we had two scheduled theme filks: The History of Everything (songs that tell history, real or imaginary, illuminate some important event in filk history, or songs that hold a key place in fannish history) and the Irish Traditional Tunes session.

Pegasus Awards Banquet

The Pegasus Awards Banquet on Saturday evening was an elegant catered affair at which the winners of last years Pegasus Awards were announced.

Kids Pizza Party

There was a free pizza party for those children whose parents were attending the Pegasus Awards Banquet.

Farewell Jam Session

OVFF ended with the traditional farewell jam session.

Dead Dog Dinner Run

Following the Farewell Jam Session, the traditional pilgramage to BD's Mongolian BBQ for the "Dead Dog" dinner was made.

Dead Dog Filk

Once the filkers were fed, it was time to get back to the business of singing until the last person either fell asleep mid-refrain or was carried off to bed.
