Ohio Valley Filk Fest 23

Song Writing Competition

A line drawing of a pegasus in flight

Every year since 1986, OVFF has held at least one songwriting competition in order to encourage the creation of new songs and increase the number of active song writers in the Filk community.

That, and it's a lot of fun!

Our congratulations go out to the winners of previous competitions, a list of whom is found here.

This Year's First Theme: "No SH**, There I Was"

Write a song (original lyrics and music or new lyrics to existing music (ie- parody)).

This Year's Second Theme: INSTAFILK!!!

The theme and the structure of the songs for the contest will be announced at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party on Friday night!

Contest Rules

  1. Entries should be new material of limited distribution written between October 2006 and October 2007.
  2. Songs are to be performed before the judges, but are judged on the writing quality - not the strength of the performance. If the songwriter is not a performer, the entry may be performed by a friend; however the songwriter has to attend the convention to be eligable to enter the contest.
(A PDF file of the scoring sheet used by the judges can be found here.)
  3. Please bring three (3) copies of your song for the judges.
  4. There will be an "Audience Favorite" prize in addition to the prizes awarded by the judges.

Entries

Signup sheets will be made available Saturday morning at the convention on a first come, first served basis. The number of entries permitted may be limited, so be sure to sign up early.

If you have any questions as to the appropriateness of the entry, please seek out an OVFF concom member or e-mail us.
