Tear It Down
Music and Lyrics Copyright ©1998 by Renee Alper
I grew up in a small town, in a house beside a stream
And each new day I lived there held another chance to dream
Life was simple, life was happy--there was love for everyone
And tomorrow's hopes and plans had just begun
When I moved out of that old house where my carefree days were spent
I lived in an apartment, and worked hard to make the rent
But Ma said the house got lonely, with no kids to make a sound
So she sold it to a man who tore it down
CHORUS:
Tear it down, it's just a memory
And it's only brick and wood to a stranger
Tear it down, tear it down
Just the ending of a dream, so tear it down
Seems it's just the way that life goes, that the things you love the most
Tend to vanish in the stream of time, and haunt you like a ghost!
Bits and pieces of the past you seek are all that you can find
In the dusty, hidden corners in your mind
CHORUS:
BRIDGE:
Look into the future, everything seems bright and new!
But the past's the only place our dreams already have come true
In the rubble of my childhood, another's dreams have just begun --
But the memories of that old house still live on
CHORUS:
CHORUS:
