Katy Dröge-Macdonald was born and raised in North Germany, where people are supposed to be cool, quiet and reasonable just like the weather - but who ever believes a weather report? The beginning of her fannish life in 1989 had been dominated by Star Trek fandom - in 1990 she discovered filk which invaded her life and never let her go again (she even *married* a filker ;-)). Her musical career before filking included choir singing and playing the accordion in an orchestra. This particular skill enables her to play organs, synthesizers or pianos while lying down underneath it and reaching up, a very filkish thing to do. Her main instruments now, however, are the Takamine guitars "Gracey" and "Storm" which she tends to play standing up.
In 1991, Ju Honisch and Katy joined forces and the filk duo "Yooh and Katy" was born. Many many many joint ventures followed. For more, you can visit Yooh's and Katy's joint filk site at jukaty.filk.de
Since 2007, Katy has also been performing with the filk-barbershop quartet 'Barbership', which also includes Steve Macdonald (tenor), Eva Van Daele-Hunt (soprano), and Rafael Van Daele-Hunt (bass).
And since singing with other people is such a joy and one can never have enough bands, there is also the occasional trio singing with 'DKSM' (Marilisa, Steve and Katy) and, the latest addition, 'Twotonic' (Katy & Steve doing folk-y music of all sorts). Their first album, Rowan & Storm, was released at OVFF in 2014.
Apart from her main hobby music she's interested in travelling (nnaaahhh, it doesn't show at all *g*) and computers, loves dogs, running around in the woods (for staying in shape, mind you, not for hunting forest creatures or the like ;-)) and generally being outdoors... She also loves walks along the sea shore and is usually happy when she can be near the water. She lives in Hamburg (Germany's most wonderful city, of course *g*) together with her husband Steve who she stole away from the Americans (*evil laugh*) and works for a Japanese company in the field of microelectronics.
